Why is it important to make a will?

Save your loved ones time, money, and stress
When you don’t have a will, the legal process overseeing the distribution of your assets (probate) can get complicated and time-consuming. Having a will that clearly outlines your final wishes will expedite the probate process and prevent potential legal disputes, making a difficult time much easier for your loved ones.
Nominate a legal guardian for your minor children
Sole custody will usually go to the surviving parent, but if both parents pass, you’ll want to have a guardian in place to provide for your children. If you don’t name a guardian in your will, the decision falls to a court that will decide for you.
Ensure your final wishes are honored
Even if your family and friends are aware of your final wishes, the only way to legally enforce said wishes is to have the legal documentation in place. If you die without a will, what happens to your belongings and assets will be dictated by state laws, which may not represent what you truly want.
Name someone you trust as an executor
Choosing someone reliable to serve as your executor is crucial in ensuring your final wishes are carried out. The executor is responsible for managing your estate, ensuring debts are settled, and your belongings go to the right people. Without an appointed executor, the court will appoint someone, who may not be informed about your assets and intentions.
